Wall Mounted Taps: Modern and Stylish

Installing wall-mounted taps can add style and sophistication to any kitchen or bathroom, but there are other advantages to consider. Wall-mounted taps can be installed onto a panel system, enabling you to have all the pipework hidden out of sight, and they can also save space, giving you more room for items such as hand soap or body wash

Wall-mounted taps are also a very popular choice for use with Communal Wash Troughs, often paired with Sensor Operated Taps. Both sensor-operated and push taps also improve hygiene due to users not having to manually operate the tap once their hands have been washed clean. As well as improved hygiene, Non-Concussive and Sensor-Operated Taps are also easy to use for those with limited mobility or dexterity, making them both user-friendly options.

Wall Mounted Taps FAQ

How high should Mounted Taps be?

How high a mounted tap should be depends on the style and shape of the tap, but these are the recommendations:

  • For wall-mounted basin taps, it is recommended that the wall-mounted tap is situated roughly eight to ten inches above the sink to comfortably wash your hands without knocking the basin.
  • For wall-mounted bath taps, it is recommended that there is a gap of at least 10cm between the wall-mounted tap and the bathtub

How to install wall mounted bath taps

It is advised that you hire a professional plumber to install your wall-mounted taps, as they are generally more difficult to install than deck taps. Wall-mounted taps must be installed between two wall studs and properly lined up at least 10cm from the bath. You can even install wall-mounted taps onto a panel system to hide unsightly pipework.

Considerations for installing Wall-Mounted Taps

If you’re looking to install a wall-mounted tap, there are a few things to consider first, such as:

  • Backsplash - if your backsplash is tile, you will want to ensure that the grout lines line up with your tap for appearance purposes. The last thing you want is an off-centre wall-mounted tap!
  • Is it possible to install a wall-mounted tap? - In most cases, it will be possible to install a wall-mounted tap. However, there are occasions where installing a wall-mounted tap may prove a little challenging. For example, if your backsplash is made of stone, you must drill precisely located holes into it for the taps. Another potentially tricky situation is if you’re installing the taps on an exterior-facing wall, as this could lead to frozen pipes in particularly cold conditions.
  • Replacing deck-mounted taps with wall-mounted taps - If you already have taps fixed to a sink or bath, you will have to replace the basin or bathtub as well and big holes will be left where the taps were once located.

How to remove a Wall-Mounted Tap

To remove a wall-mounted tap, you must first turn off the water supply; here are the next steps:

  • Remove the faucet screw - Look for a small plastic or metal button on the front of the tap (the insert); you can take this off with the edge of a screwdriver or utility knife. Once this is removed, you will see the faucet screw and can use a screwdriver to undo it. You can then also remove the metal bolt behind the screw.
  • Take off the tap handles - Using a screwdriver, take off the screws on the sides of the tap handles.
  • Take off the trim plate - unscrew the trim plate with a screwdriver and pull it away from the caulking (you may need a flat-headed screwdriver for this step). You can then also remove the bonnet nut behind the trim plate.
  • Remove the faucet valve - use a socket to place over the faucet valve and push it into the wall. You will then need to turn the socket until you hear it lock onto the valve. Using a wrench, turn the valve and loosen it. You may pull it out when it is loose enough.
  • You can then take off the last parts of the faucet!

Are Wall-Mounted Taps good?

There are many advantages of wall-mounted taps, including:

  • Wall-mounted taps make cleaning the back of sinks accessible and easy to clean
  • They are a stylish addition to a bathroom or kitchen
  • Increase range of motion - this makes filling up pots or buckets with water much easier!
  • They save space, leaving you with more room to place your soap dispensers on sinks and body wash on bathtub tops.
